Caring for your little ones at home

When you think of buying for bub you think about what pram you are going to use or the theme of the nursery but what’s really most important is the little things you need to help care for your baby.

A good thermometer is so important. Unfortunately your baby will inevitably get temperatures and you want something really easy and reliable. I have the Oricom HFS1000 Non-Contact Infrared Forehead Thermometer and have found it so useful. If your baby is not feeling well, its not going to lie there for two minutes (like other thermometers) while you take its temperature so this one is brilliant. It takes less than two seconds and you can just press it close to their heads so if you need to use it on several children you can be assured that you are not spreading germs. It is so easy to use that my older children when feeling unwell have come to me and told me their temperature reading!

Gaia are my go-to for all wipes, creams and oils. My daughter has very sensitive skin (as do most newborns) so you want to make sure you are using the right products on their hair and body.

I use the Gaia Shampoo, Massage Oil, Baby Wipes, Moisturiser and their Baby Powder.
The wipes are made from soft bamboo and are gentle enough to use on the face, hands and during nappy changing time. They are also 100% biodegradable so perfect for those of us thinking of the environment.  My older girls also use Gaia Shampoo and Body Wash and I can guarantee you they all smell delicious and feel so soft and smooth. If you haven’t tried it then get The Gaia Natural Baby Starter Kit so you can try a little bit of every one, you will love it! (The starter kit has also been perfect when travelling, sleeping at grandmas house and I’ve even thrown them in the swimming bag for after the lesson).

The Tommee Tippee Sangenic Nappy Disposal System from Closer to Nature is a new addition to my nursery and I can’t believe I didn’t have one before. It is so easy to set up, to use and with how many nappies you are going to do in the first two-three years of your babies life it is completely a must have. It makes things so much more hygienic and clean for you and your baby. You literally put the nappy in, twist and then close the lid. It is really that simple!

The Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Healthcare Kit has everything you could need to pamper and look after your baby. It is a cute little pouch that holds all the essentials like the nasal aspirator (snot sucker), two different hairbrushes, nail clippers, scissors, a toothbrush, a thermometer and more! Perfect to keep in the top drawer of the change table for easy access or to take away on holidays so that you know you have everything!

Whilst the above list doesn’t make for the cutesy baby presents, if you are looking for a good practical gift, any of these will so appreciated by a new mother. The soft teddies will sit on shelves and the beautiful clothes will get vomited on, but these will be used daily so the mother will think of you every time!
